Suzanne Burks

I received some overwhelmingly sad news on Sunday. My mother, Suzanne Burks, was killed in a car accident south of Jackson in Hazelhurst, MS. My Dad, who was in the car with her, survived.
She was not much for computers, but she loved to look at my blog. To hear her talk about it you'd think I had my own show on the Food Network. She was proud of each and every thing that I did. I hope each and every one of you has someone in your life like Suzanne.

For those who knew her I need not explain how wonderful she was. For the few who did not know her, all I can say is that she was the most beautiful person in the whole world. "The best ever," as she would say. I could not count the number of lives she touched. She will be missed so much.

There will be a funeral service at Hope Pres (8500 Walnut Grove Rd.) Thursday at 1:00pm. Visitation will start at 11:30. She will be buried at Memorial Park Following the service.

Please keep my family in your prayers,

Justin

Ah, Justin! I can't even imagine. I know I've already said that, but I really can't. She sounds like such a beautiful person! I'm soooo sorry for your loss. And I'll pray for ya'll in my own special way.

As for the funeral, I really wish I could be there, but I'm working at the front desk tomorrow during Melinda's lunch break...and I've already switched with Frank so there's no getting out of it...but my thoughts are with ya'll.

Justin,
I just found your blog because of the article in Edible Memphis. Your story about your Mom is so sad, although I did not know her. I also have not seen you in years (we took photo together at U of M with Larry Jasud).

I absolutely love your blog, and your recipes, and OF COURSE your photos. You are in my prayers and as an artist I know that you will find Beauty in the ugliness of life and all of its mysteries. Your Mom sounds like her life was "The Best Ever".

Peace to you.

OMG.... I'm terribly sorry about the awful news. Is that a pic of her? If so she looks sooo cute and glamormous. She became one of Gods angels on that day.

Justin,
i did not know until the summer that your mom had been in an accident and was killed. I am so sorry! She was one of the nicest moms that I had in my 25 year teaching career! I also go to Hope and had run into your mom and dad several times there. I always admired their love for each other and their parenting skills! i googled your mom tonight because i saw a piece of her clothing last week that I recognized and i have been thinking of her! Please know that you, your dad, and your brothers are in my thoughts and prayers! I think so much of all of you!!! I can only imagine what it is like to lose a mom - especially one as vivacious and loving as your mom!!! I hope that ya'll are doing Ok - a year later! My children lost their dad 3 years ago very suddenly and I know that it is a hard thing to go through. I know that she and your dad were always so proud of their boys!!!! I hope you are doing OK. :) I just always remember so much love and joy in your family!!! :)
